Inter Cars' decarbonization goals have been positively verified by the Science Based Targets initiative

2024-01-22

The Inter Cars Group intends to reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting directly from the company's activities by 2030. We want to share knowledge and cooperate with representatives of the entire value chain, and in particular with our suppliers, to help them define their own goals in this area.

The decarbonization goals adopted by the Inter Cars Group are an element of the revised Sustainable Development Strategy and the Decarbonization Strategy by 2030. The actions planned for their implementation are intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by Inter Cars' activities.

The adopted targets have been verified by the international SBTi initiative (Science Based Targets initiative), which enables companies to set ambitious emission reduction targets in a manner consistent with the latest scientific findings on climate. It focuses on promoting the acceleration of action by companies around the world to halve emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Inter Cars is one of a small group of several Polish companies whose decarbonization goals have been verified and approved by SBTi.

How is the carbon footprint calculated?

A company's carbon footprint is the sum of greenhouse gas emissions generated during its operations. These emissions are divided into three ranges according to the GHG Protocol methodology:

  • Scope 1 covers direct emissions arising during the company's operations,
  • Scope 2 covers indirect emissions resulting from the production of purchased electricity and heat,
  • Scope 3 covers indirect emissions generated throughout the organization's value chain.

The Inter Cars Group calculates the company's carbon footprint in all three scopes from 2021 and publishes information on this topic every year in the Sustainability Report.

To what extent does Inter Cars intend to reduce its carbon footprint?

In the course of work on the revised Sustainable Development Strategy and the Decarbonization Strategy, the following decarbonization goals were established:

  1. Inter Cars undertakes to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions in scope 1 and 2 by 42% by 2030 compared to 2021 as the base year.
  2. Inter Cars commits to engaging 73% of its suppliers (in category 1: Purchased goods and services, category 4: Transport and distribution upstream and category 9 Transport and distribution downstream) to set their decarbonization goals by 2028 (range 3).

You will be able to read more about the revised Sustainable Development Strategy and the Decarbonization Strategy in the Sustainability Report for 2023, which we will publish together with the Consolidated Annual Report for the period from January 1 to December 31, 2023.
